Holding the Camera

Proper Camera handling may sound elementary but when disregarded can lead to countless retakes, lines of the infamous hold on, one more time", and the possible spoiling of those precious moments. Holding the camera firmly in your hand means that you can prevent the camera from shaking or shifting too much when pressing the shutter button, also watch your spare fingers as they have tendencies to interfere with the lens. Wrap the camera strap around your fingers so that you will be more aware of where they are.

Focusing

Digital cameras take slightly longer to focus than film camera, so an important tip when capturing an image is to half-depress the shutter button until the camera has had time to lock the focus, and then completely press the button to take the actual shot - this can often make the difference between blurry, out-of-focus shots, and clear pictures.

Preview

On standard film cameras, there are no second takes, the image is final and when the photos are printed the mistakes are absolute; waste on film, paper, and fees but that was history. Today, one of the main advantages of a digital camera is being able to preview the pictures after youve taken them (and have an automatic basis for a retake or exclusion). I mean why keep a picture if its blurry, or someones eyes are closed, or a person is smiling when its a funeral, and or some hands simply obstructing part of the view?

Storing

Imagine a scenario where you reach for your camera and clicking the button seeing the perfect kiss, smile, stunt, or sunset and imagining your friends reactions when you show it to them, only to realize that your storage is full and youve missed that precious moment. Textures. You can add different textures in your pictures to make it look as if it had been printed into assorted textiles. Examples of such textile includes craquelure, grain, mosaic tiles, patchwork, texturizer, and stained glass.

Colour. There are many options you can use to enhance your pictures' colours. Edit your pictures' hue and saturation, turn them as a classic black and white picture using the desaturate option, or transform them into pop art through the use of colour variations. You can even give them an antique feel by applying sepia tone.

Blurring. You can easily change the depth of field of your picture by playing with the various blurring and smudging tools on most photo editing software. Soften your subject's features by using the different blur filters, such as 'radial blur', which gives a hazy circular blur on your photo and 'motion blur', which gives off movement effects.

By playing with various effects and filters, you can create an artwork worthy to be mounted on canvas and displayed for everyone to enjoy. Beyond The Attraction

There has been a lot of debate about how attraction governs our relationships. You might have been in this situation: You are dating a beautiful woman, things are great, and you are having fun. Eventually, somewhere down the line, the attraction fades, and you realize you barely know this person. The relationship tanks.

How does this happen, and how do we prevent it?

Understand that there are several types of attraction. There is the physical part, which everyone knows. That tends to fade over time, no matter how good looking she is. And to make things worse, we often tend to focus on what we DON'T like about a person, rather than what we do.

For a man, I think it's hardwiring. We're born to be problem solvers. So we look at what we don't like about us and try to fix it. Unfortunately, a bit of that thinking leaks over into our relationships. It can be a bad thing, but know this - physical attraction can be resparked, and it's a wonderful thing when it does.

We'll get to that later. Let's look at the other components of attraction. The next part has to do with physical closeness. A close companion to the first part, it has to do with exciting our sense of touch.

Have you ever been with a woman who merely had to touch you to get you excited? It can be exhilarating. The touch says she wants you, is attracted to you, and later on, loves you.

It's a reassuring feeling, and serves to deepen our caring about the other person.

The next part is tricky. It has to do with our competence. In any relationship, you will have some sort of balance between the aspects each person brings forward. In general, you have people of the same "caliber" attracted to each other. It's a matter of what is important to them - intelligence, physical prowess, social skills, etc.

A celebrity couple is a great example of how this works. Both sides have reassurance in their own right, due to their stardom. The average guy off the streets would be massively intimidated. Not so with each other, so the fit is natural. This is the least influential quality I believe. Some celebrities are more grounded, and some "normal" people just don't care or aren't intimidated by the whole thing.

Mutual liking is the next component, and it's easy to see. If someone likes you, you tend to like them more than if they didn't reciprocate the feeling. The exception is if that person turns out to be needy, then things get a bit scary in that aspect.

The last part is the complementary effect you have towards the other person. This can be confusing. Take a look at how you "complement" someone in a relationship. You might have similar likes, but you might behave in opposing manners. Or vice versa. It's how you work together as a whole. How do you mesh together?

Now that we've outlined what compromises attraction, let's look at what we can do to keep it going.

The first thing to remember is this: if it is going to fade, it will fade. That goes for either person. You can try and keep them attracted, but it might not always work.

On the physical end, there is much you can do. The first is obvious - physically try and keep yourself in shape. Many people slip during a relationship, and get out of shape. Or fail to take care of themselves. Your mate will take note of this. A bit of maintenance goes a long way.

Next, try to be objective about your relationship, and focus on what you DO like about your mate physically. This can't stop physical attraction from fading but you'll appreciate them more.

Another part of this is much harder to change, but it helps most of these aspects. Allow her to be herself. Sounds simple, but we find ways to control, and keep a firm grip on the other person. Often, out of fear that they'll leave us. It can be a self fulfilling prophecy. If you show yourself to be confident, and have taken a great interest in her as a person, she'll find it hard to stray.

Just allow her to do things that allow her to be her. If she's a flirt, let her! If you've done what you need to do, she'll come back to you.

As far as liking goes, if you do your diligence, and take an interest in her as a person, you'll find that you have someone who will remain loyal to you, and attracted as well.

Taking the time in finding ways to mesh, in the early going, will do wonders as far as attraction goes. Plus, you'll be way ahead of the curve. I'll go out on a limb and say that most relationships fail due to the inability to reconcile their differences in a civil manner. This is the root of being able to complement others! Thrive off the energy created by differences, instead to fighting it or hating it!

Product Quality Control using Thermal Shock Chambers

Thermal Shock Chambers are a variety of test chambers that provide an extremely rapid temperature shock to test a product for reliability. Items normally tested for this would include aerospace parts and electronic assemblies. Almost all consumer electronics nowadays are also tested to ensure that they are reliable when released into the field.

A Thermal Shock Chamber normally consists of two zones, hot and cold. The product being tested is moved between the two zones using a transfer mechanism. This transfer mechanism can be operated electrically or pneumatically (will require compressed air supply). The product is placed in a basket and moved using the transfer mechanism.

Although most Thermal Shock Chambers have two test zones, some also have three. The third zone serves either as an ambient zone or is another hot zone when the chamber is configured as a "double capacity" system. Double capacity have two hot zones and two test baskets which move from zone to zone with two test loads instead of one (thus "double capacity").

Mechancial refrigeration compressors are typically used to provide cooling for Thermal Shock Chambers. However, LN2 or CO2 can also be used, but this can become costly over time. Both gas cooled and mechanically refrigerated chambers usually have a temperature range of -70C to +170C. The hot zone is heated using electrical heating elements.

The compressors used in Thermal Shock Chambers need to be large enough to ensure that the product being tested recovers in a given time once it is transferred from the hot zone to the cold zone. The heating elements for the hot zone also need to be large enough to ensure that the product temperature recovers in a given time when it is moved from the cold zone to the hot zone. For example, a small thermal shock chamber with a test basket about 10x10x10 could have two 5hp compressors in a cascade configuration to accomplish this. Obviously there will be a limit to the size of the test load which can be tested using these size compressors.

Since the size of the compressors used for most Thermal Shock Chambers tend to be on the large side, they are typically water cooled or remote air cooled. Should the compressors on their own not be large enough to cool the cold zone, LN2 or CO2 Boost can be added. However, using LN2 or CO2 can become expensive over time if the chamber is used often and therefore mechanical refrigeration is normally preferred. If LN2 or CO2 use is not an issue, then one could purchase a chamber that only uses these gasses and no mechanical refrigeration at all.

Serious photography means artistic, well-considered photography. As such, it also entails a vast scope of equipment, tools, and techniques that make most point-and-shoot enthusiasts, just that: an enthusiast. Though a hobby is an admirable thing, the professional consideration of photography requires serious dedication. Most hobbyist never bother learning the rules of Depth of Field or which f/stop is best to use on an overcast day because the art of photography is now geared towards the hobbyist.

The investment of time, passion, and money required to master photography is a worthwhile one. You would never condemn the painter for mastering the basics of rendering the human body. So, too, the photographer must learn how to master a basic 35mm film camera. The average person would be stunned to account for all the elements of photography a serious degree requires of a prospective student.

All serious photographers must abide by three irrefutable principles. Know your subject, tailor the camera to meet your needs, and always simplify. Composition is more than trying to recreate your favorite movie angle. Ho does the background interact with your subject? What does the angle to the emotional sense of your photograph? Your subject should never, ever be placed in the middle of the picture. Doing so would either be consider ironic or amateurish.

The twin brother of composition is light. Light, or the lack thereof, is the single most important factor governing the quality and appeal of a photograph. Do you have enough natural light? Few of us ever consider the time and effort a stunning photograph entails. Even with digital SLR cameras most professionals will tell you out of two or three entire memory cards they will be hard pressed to find one or two acceptable shots. Of course, it may be easier for photographers today, given the proliferation of corrective software available.
