The Story Of The Modest Lanyard

By Rick Daniel

Lanyard had a modest long and illustrious history of service, the handles decorated with the sword in the battle for the flags of the game in primary schools all over the gym teacher of your neck. Over the years, however Lanyards always held close to those things which, if any important man. I was born, the benefit of a short rope was able to survive for years because of its inherent simplicity and functionality.

In times past the lanyard was used by military men to secure what they needed most, their weapons. In this way the lanyard was a lifeline to a soldier as it kept their pistols or swords within arm's reach when they were needed and out of the way when they were not. The lanyard has probably been the unsung hero of all military accouterments, but it served reliably in the shadows none the less.

Today lanyards are still an underappreciated item in the eyes of many, and usually go unnoticed. If you were to take note you would find lanyards in places from the white house to a rock concert. These days' doctors, policemen and FBI agents use them to display their identification and other important credentials. Many government agencies use them to keep key cards for secure doors on their person. Members of the press display their press identification on lanyards as you may have seen during White House press conferences.

Government and press officials aren't the only ones who use lanyards; they are widely used in the realm of entertainment. Often at concerts lanyards are used to hold VIP passes and identifiers for stage hands and other crew members. In sports NFL and NBA referees keep the all important whistle on lanyards. The lanyard allows a referee to quickly reach his whistle during fast paced professional games. For this same reason Lifeguards use lanyards with whistles as well, although instead of calling fouls they need to reach them quickly in order to keep swimmers safe. Doctors use identification cards attached to lanyards for security and to allow patients to easily identify them. As you can see lanyards are an integral yet overlooked part of our health and safety.

The professional world isn't the only part of society that finds important uses for lanyards. Parents often buy them for children in order to put that first door key safely around their necks where it is less likely to be lost or stolen. Schoolchildren often have identification cards issued in lanyards in order to keep the schools safe and secure. A handy gentleman might keep a small flashlight attached to a lanyard around his neck. A person can never know when they might need to make a repair under poor lighting conditions. This is also useful for mechanics plumbers and computer technicians. Some people prefer to keep a pen on a lanyard instead of in their pockets to avoid embarrassing ink stains that may occur.

Clearly the lanyard is an indispensable and versatile tool for securing many small yet important items. From Identification to utility to military facilities to concerts, the lanyard can be found just about anywhere in the world and in any level of society. There are few items that are as simple long lasting and useful as the not-so-lowly lanyard. - 15437
