Excessive Underarm Sweating and Botox

By Karlen P Olsen

Botox has been an amazing gift to cosmetics, helping to reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles for millions of people. Recently, however, Botox was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a new use: to treat excessive sweating under the arms, also known as hyperhidrosis.

If you or someone you know suffers from underarm hyperhidrosis, then you know the embarrassment that comes with the territory. Short of surgery, many people have had little success treating the condition and continue to live with the mortification every day. Fortunately, Botox has helped eliminate the need for surgery, while providing better results than traditional treatments for the condition.

Botox is effective in blocking the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands, something other treatments consistently fail to do. Recent studies have shown that when Botox is used to treat hyperhidrosis, excessive underarm sweating was relieved for an average period of about seven months. One in three patients studied did not begin sweating again for approximately a year and a half! So, results vary somewhat in terms of duration, but the treatment itself is very successful.

Botox is extremely effective at treating underarm hyperhidrosis, but it is not a permanent cure. Its effects can be long-lasting and relief from excessive underarm sweating usually last for over a year since the condidtion returns gradually and in the early stages, can be quite easily controlled. Additional Botox treatments can be postponed for quite a long time until the condition becomes more serious again.

The treatment can be performed in a physicians office, such as a dermatologist, and takes very little time to complete. Theres no downtime " once administered, patients can resume regular activity immediately.

Patients should choose a skilled physician with extensive experience in administering Botox. The Kopelson Clinic in Beverly Hills, California, is known for its expertise with using Botox for variety of uses, most notably in this case, as a treatment for excessive underarm sweating, or hyperhidrosis.

This new treatment has made a world of difference for Kopelson Clinic patients suffering with this condition. Its given them back their self-confidence. Its given them back their lives. - 15437
