Why Do People Think Gold Diggers Are Bad?

By Jayde Johanssen

I'm writing this article to try and clear the air on the term "the gold digger", a label applied to women who specifically and exclusively date wealthy men.

The gold digger is the woman who specifically seeks to date a wealthy, financially successful man. As always, these types of label are really unfriendly and do not help people find their ideal partner at all.

People are just different from each other. One person should not apply their own decisions and views across to other people. We should be able to live in harmony, celebrating each others differences. The simple fact is that some people live well and thrive in a situation of abundance and wealth, others don't. The pressures and issues which comes with wealth has the power to destroy people's lives. You see it quite often when people win lotto. They go from a happy rags to an unhappy riches and usually back to rags in short order.

People have different priorities in life. For some people, commitment to their business or career is their number one priority. This is what earns them their riches. Personally, its not for me, I'd prefer a life of love and fulfilment through commitment to family, but thats just where my priorities lie. For others though, life is about earning and enjoying all the luxuries life has to offer. This is what brings out the best in them as people.

Given I can understand that such a lifestyle isn't for me, yet it is for others, I don't understand why people have to create unfair labels for people who want to live that way. I don't understand why other people need to label a woman who pursues and dates wealthy men a gold digger, if it makes both her and her partner happy. The woman who applies this criteria to her dating assumedly knows herself, know what situations she works well in and understands the qualities she brings to her partners. So why can't we just wish her all the best and concentrate on our own happiness?

If you are being honest with yourself, if you know what you need to be the best person you can be, just go for it. If in your circumstance, this means finding a wealthy or successful partner, great. Good luck. There are plenty of dating sites out there which cater specifically to your circumstance

So forget the detractors, their opinions usually tell you more about them anyway. - 15437
