Most of us have got constipation once in a while for some and frequently for others. Constipation should never be ignored, because when the body is not functioning correctly, serious illness can ensue.

Constipation?is a warning sign from your body to let you know that changes need to be made. Finding the causes of constiption is very important in prevention and elimination of constipation.

Constipation may effectuate from a poor diet which is low in fiber, poor bowel habits, or problems in elimination of stool, whether physical, functional, or voluntary. Drinking too much milk for system to handle) is heavily associated with having constipation.

Dietary fiber which is also known as bulk forming laxatives may benefit individuals with relatively minor or occasional constipation. Eating a fiber-rich diet, drinking plenty of fluids. Vegetables, fresh fruits, dried fruits, and whole wheat, bran, or oatmeal cereals are excellent sources of fiber.

In some cases however, some individuals may find it hard to cope with the bulk of fruits needed. When this occurs, it is best that fiber supplements such as wheat bran, oat bran, psyllium seeds be added to the daily diet.

Drinking water, which has been kept overnight in a copper vessel in the morning with empty stomach, will give immediate relief from constipation. Drink water each night before going to bed as well.

Individuals who do a lot more exercise are often better physically that those who live a sedentary life. One of the many benefits of regular exercise is improved bowel motility. Exercise is perhaps the best prevention for constipation.

Treatment with a laxative is needed only if the measures above (fibre, fluid, etc) do not work well. Commonly prescribed bulk-forming laxatives include ispaghula husk,methylcellulose, and sterculia. Laxatives should be reserved for temporary constipation due to illness, incapacity, or travel.
