Save Your Marriage - Take a Look at The Us Factor

By Matt Hellstrom

What is The Us Factor?

The makers of The Total Transformation parenting program have added a new tool to their belt that fits right in with their ongoing desire to see healthy relationships develop. This time they have targeted marriages with The Us Factor. From the start, you notice that it is of the same high quality. And it also uses the same theory that small changes can make large differences in your relationship with your spouse.

The Creator of Us Factor

Dr. Joseph Melnick, a licensed psychologist developed this marriage program. He is a couples and family counselor as well as an organizational consultant. He has written many articles and helped on books dealing with intimacy, ethics, and organizational structures.

For the last 20 years, he has had a private practice dealing with couples in crisis. He has a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Univ. of Cincinnati and is co-chairing at the Cape Cod Training Program. Also serves as a board member of the Gestalt International Study Center. As if that is not enough, he is also Editor-in-Chief of the Gestalt Review, which is a publication that focuses on the Gestalt theory in clinical, family, group and organizational topics.

The Dollar Investment

The Us Factor is relatively inexpensive, especially if you compare the price to couples counseling (not to say that counseling isnt an excellent route to go - we've been to counseling on and off over the years, and we sincerely believe that without it, we wouldn't still be together. Dr. Melnick also makes it a point to say in the very first DVD that counseling is extremely beneficial). However, many people don't want to go to counseling for a variety of reasons, such as the following:

* It is hard to imagine telling someone they don't know their issues.

* Too expensive

* Not enough time to go.

Looking at these reasons gives you an idea how the Us Factor can work better for people. You can do it to fit your schedule, in the privacy of your home and the cost upfront is a small fee for shipping and handling. They have a 30-day trial period for that and then if you want to continue, you can even pay for it over three months.

The Us Factor Details

The Us Factor includes the following:

* Twelve DVD topics

* A 232 page Workbook

* An 800 number support line

* Additional free DVD that addresses not normally discussed but much needed marriage issues

The package container is attractive, contemporary and works well for keeping the DVD's and workbook.

A Description of the Information provided

The first day's DVD is an overview and an intro to the Us Factor. I got hooked right from the start and even found some tips in this DVD that I could use in my marriage and that made me want to see more. It also reiterated a lot of what I have learned over the years in marriage counseling. Dr. Melnick has the couples face each other in the session and I like how that builds the intimacy and trust as they talk to each other and not "through" him. I think it is a great start in talking to each other and not at each other.

As stated before the principle behind the Us Factor marriage program is that little changes make large differences. And also that skills we need to keep the love alive need to be taught and tinkered with along the way of this continuous marriage road. He likens it to teaching a kid to drive. First he needs to learn the skills and then he can drive. Marriage is similar. As the loving starts fading, we need skills to keep it moving.

Dr. Melnick says that love is like driving the car from Maine to California. Fun, don't notice any problems and you are there! However, the return trip is not so smooth, potholes, deer in the road, in-laws. And now is when those skills are sorely needed.

The Us Factor marriage package seems to me to be one that can be helpful to any married couple. I like how it fits what I have already learned in counseling and expands on it. I would recommend reviewing this to keep your marriage healthy. - 15437
