Presenting yourself in the best possible light can bring out the worst in us - either we try too hard and make ourselves into super human emotionally tough and fabulously gifted demi-gods, or we shoot too low and slide down the slippery road of "if you're really interested you can take the time to get to know me" syndrome.
In the modern world we don't often have a lot of time to make a great first impression.
Now is the time that preparation is essential.
Put pen to paper - and write a great personal description. Be honest and highlight your best traits and mimimize your not so great ones.
1. Get Your Best Mug Shot - And Say Cheese
I could count on several hundred fingers the amount of profiles out there with the most suspect photographs.
You have been warned : I advise not taking a photograph of yourself if you are looking like a mess, tired, hung over, or not in a great mood.
I recommend a bright and colorful photograph - ideally focusing on the head and shoulders, with natural lighting or at least a well lit shot. Make yourself stand out with a fabulous smile and some colorful clothes or background.
2. Avoid Common 'Over Used' Words
Have you ever read these lovelies : "great personality", "wonderful woman", "loves eating out"
Are you asleep yet?
Details and interesting details, are the life blood of your profile.
Be memorable and multi-dimentional, by giving some specifics about yourself to your audience. This allows their imaginations to picture you in all your glory.
3. Give Me - Give Me- Give Me
Don't assume that people will work out your ideal person from your profile details. It is far better to state what you are looking for a person, and if you have some 'do not wants' state them too. You will receive far more suitable replies.
Whether it's a date or wedding ring you are after, chuch person or biker - state your desires in a clear but concise way.
Don't risk being too general and grey or you will get far too many unsuitable responses.
4. Tell Me No Lies or Porkies
Keep exaggeration, gloss and hype to a minimum. You are not a used car salesperson.
Physical appearance is an aspect where you can not get away with 'hype'. Describing your self as "hot", "stunning" may not endear you too your audiance as physical attraction is always a personal and subjective thing. It's far more cool to put your photo up and draw your admirers to you.
You and your mum may think you're the 'best thing since sliced bread' - but a reality check may be just what the doctor ordered.
Keep it real.
5. The Groundwork is Essential
When getting to know someone, a few key fundamental information points are useful. These include your marital status, age, level of education, job, and general geographic location.
I don't really have to say it - but I will anyway. For your safety, do not reveal anything specifc about yourself.
6. Paint Your Colorful World
We all like heroes, strong characters, people who believe in something important to their hearts.
We love them because we can identify with some value or goal of theirs. We feel motivated and inspired by them.
Now it's your turn to look at your own life - and find the theme or flavour that's flowing through your stream.
Write down the many things that inspire you, make you happy, and make you laugh. Include your best skills and traits, and what makes you unique.
e.g. Doctor and Humanitarian - Big Kid , Young at Heart - Seeking Partner in Crime and Frolicks
7. Just Go For It
Return to simplicy. Sometimes it's just the best way.
Have fun and keep in light. Be smart and be aware, but don't forget to let go and find the lessons in your experience. Learn and grow. - 15437
